Inés y la Alegría

"Toulouse, summer of 1939. Carmen de Pedro, head of the decimated Spanish Communists in France, meets Jesús Monzón, a lesser official of the party who, unknown to her, harbors an ambitious plan. Some years later, in 1944, Monzón, now her partner, has organized the most disciplined group of the Resistance against the German occupation, is preparing the platform for the Spanish National Union, and has an army of men ready to invade Spain. Among them is Galán, who has fought in the Association of Spanish Guerrillas and believes, like many others in the fall of 1944, that after the Allied landings and the withdrawal of the Germans, it is possible to establish a Republican government in Vielha. Not far from there, Inés is confined and guarded in the house of her brother, who is provincial representative of Falange in Lleida. Inés has suffered every calamity since, alone in Madrid, she supported the Republican cause during the war, but now, when she listens in secret to the announcement of Operation Reconquest of Spain on Radio Pyrenees, Inés finds courage and a secret joy to leave behind the worst years of her life."--Cataloger translation of book back cover.
