Knitting Masterpieces

Drawing inspiration from some of the world’s greatest works of art, Ruth Herring and Karen Manners present 20 brilliant designs that are as much fun to wear as they are to knit. From a prehistoric cave painting, to the Mona Lisa, to Roy Lichtenstein’s Whaam, with Knitting Masterpieces you will soon be knitting your way through some of the greatest moments in the history of art.

Who would not be tempted by a stunning cardigan with Monet’s Water-lilies depicted in a mohair so similar to the artist’s Impressionist brushstrokes, or by Gauguin’s paintings of Tahiti displayed in the exotic colors of bright cotton yarns? Each design integrates elements from the painting into every part of the sweater | the sleeves will be as interesting to work as the front, and the sweater will be just as smashing when you leave a room as when you enter. There are pullovers, cardigans, and dresses to knit in warm wools and mohairs and in breezy summer cottons. Most can be worn by both men and women and run the gamut from an easy weekend knit to more complex projects involving intarsia and embroidery. All techniques are clearly described in a special section at the end of the book, and each sweater is accompanied by a full-color stitch chart. Knitting Masterpieces will provide you with hours of knitting pleasure while giving you a wardrobe that is a collection of art. [from inside flap]
