Our global neighborhood

As we approach the next century, a new world is taking shape. This world presents new dangers, new problems, and new challenges. But it also offers the real hope of creating a safer and more equitable era. The future is now in our hands.

Our Global Neighbourhood points a way into the 21st century: it projects a strong world vision that is people-centred; it stresses the need for shared values, a global civic ethic, and enlightened leadership to guide people and nations in the global neighbourhood. It explores the challenges facing humanity and offers considered proposals: to promote the security of people and the planet, to manage the global economy, to reform the United Nations, and to strengthen the rule of law world-wide. The Commission on Global Governance is an independent group of 28 leaders with diverse experience and responsibilities. Their task has been to suggest ways in which our global community could better manage its affairs in a new time in human history. Our Global Neighbourhood is their collective response. Published in the 50th anniversary year of the founding of the United Nations, this book is essential reading about the future of the world and the fate of generations to come.
