Understanding human sexuality

The Fifth Canadian Edition of Understanding Human Sexuality retains its focus on three key strengths: solid grounding in research, fully integrated Canadian content, and commitment to currency. Understanding Human Sexuality is written by a team of authors with an interdisciplinary approach which brings psychological, sociological, and biological perspectives to the text's comprehensive coverage. This interdisciplinary approach makes this a versatile textbook appropriate not only for psychology courses but also for programs such as nursing, social work, and family studies. Students want to learn about sexuality and the aim of the authors is to help them achieve four major objectives: To provide practical information needed for everyday living and deal with problems in sexual functioning. To help students appreciate the diversity of human sexuality along many dimensions including age, sexual orientation and identity, ethnicity within Canada and culture around the world. To help students feel more comfortable with thinking and talking about sex, both to minimize their own personal anxiety and to help them become responsible decision makers. To promote critical evaluation of research reports, educate students on the pros and cons of research methods used in sexuality. Relevant Canadian content: Sexuality differs in Canada from the United States?whether it is rates of breast-feeding, teenage pregnancy, and STIs; attitudes toward same-sex relationships; or laws regulating sexuality. These differences are reflected throughout the text and provide students with a wealth of information that is applicable to their own lives. The textbook also meaningfully incorporates Canadian sexuality research and researchers. Publisher's note.
