The Quiet House on Tern Lane is out today
The Quiet House on Tern Lane is out today, on Kindle and in paperback. Some houses keep you safe. This one was built to keep you. That is the whole pitch and I am not going to improve on it here. A few things you are entitled to know before you buy. It is a true standalone with a fully closed ending; nothing is being saved for a sequel, because there is not one. The dread is built out of a kettle going cold, a corrected memory, a name said out loud. Nothing graphic. Nothing cheap. The narration is close and compromised, and every doubt Nora has about herself was put there on purpose, by someone. And there is one turn. Not a corridor of reversals; one revelation that reorders everything behind it and cannot be unseen once it lands. You will see it coming exactly when you are meant to, which is the moment after it has already happened. Read it with the foghorns going, if you can arrange that. I did most of the writing that way and it seemed to help. If you have already finished, I would ask one favour: do not tell anyone what she finds. Tell them how you felt on the ferry.
